An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) measures the energy efficiency of a property using a scale of A to G.
Energy Performance Certificates were introduced in England and Wales in 2007 and are a legal requirement for a building to be sold, let or constructed. Once obtained, an EPC is valid for 10 years.
If you own a rental property, the energy performance rating must be of an E rating or better.
When selling or letting a property, you must order an EPC for potential buyers and tenants before you market your property to sell or rent. You can read the government guidelines surrounding EPC’s here.
