Ancoats is one of the more affluent towns surrounding the city of Manchester and was once the world’s first industrial suburb. Whilst suffering the same industrial decline as many of its neighbours, its close proximity to one of the more fashionable areas of Manchester has helped to give it a massive boost through investment and regeneration.
The Ancoats industrial past can still be seen in the red-brick factories that dominate the landscape, but many of these are now being converted into apartments. The regeneration in the area shows why house prices have grown by 3.29% in the last 12 months, leaving the average price at £192,695.
With no detached houses coming onto the market recently, it is the luxury apartments that lead the way on property prices in Ancoats, with the average price being £192,248. Terraced houses are £173,440 and semi-detached houses currently cost £139,145.
A section of Ancoats was designated as a conservation area, and as such there are number of buildings that have been listed including several mills and churches as well as the Crown and Kettle pub and the Daily Express Building.
Those looking for a treat for their ears can choose from St Peter’s Church, which is home to the Halle Orchestra or the Band on the Wall music venue on Swan Street. If you prefer a bit of a giggle, then pay a visit to the Frog and Bucket comedy club on Oldham Street.
There is also an independent theatre and a TV studio in the area, and Cutting Room Square is a wonderful open space decorated with public art and benches.
Ancoats is now thought of as one of the hippest neighbourhoods in the UK, and it is considered to be a serious foodie district. You can choose from indie cafes, restaurants and bars who have a focus on high-quality, artisan products. You can find everything here from Neapolitan pizza to Vietnamese pho and everything in between.
As you would expect in such a modern area, there are a number of nightclubs in Ancoats including Sankeysand Mantra Live. There are plenty of music venues in the area of every sort for you to enjoy.
A new report released this morning by the Nationwide Building Society has shown strong levels of confidence in the UK property market in recent months.View Full Article
