Audenshaw is a Tameside town which has an early-medieval linear earthwork running through it, known as Nico Ditch. The town has watery surroundings thanks to not only being situated on the banks of the River Tame, but also having three reservoirs separating it from neighbouring Denton. Its textile history of hat-making and cotton-spinning helped to build the town during the Victorian era and manufacturing is still a big part of what Audenshaw has to offer.
Audenshaw has seen a great change in house prices of late, as they have grown by 2.25% over the last year. Detached properties with three bedrooms are now enjoying prices of around £263,000 whilst a semi-detached house with the same number of bedrooms can be in the region of £186,000. Terraced houses can boast prices of £131,987 and flats have an average cost of £104,493. Each of these has seen a steady rise in prices since 2014 and this looks set to continue.
Moving forward, the Audenshaw property market looks set to benefit considerably from the major development projects which are now extending out from the city centre towards the East. With much of this new development focusing around the Etihad Stadium, the demand for property in Audenshaw looks set to continue to increase in the near future as city centre prices continue to escalate.
St Stephen’s Church is a stunning Grade II listed building and the beautiful Ryecroft Hall is also a wonderful feature of the town.
Audenshaw is lucky enough to have its own greyhound racing track and sports ground, with an athletics stadium nearby. The town has a strong rugby heritage, and a number of well-known international players have come from the area.
The Audenshaw Reservoirs provide a home for the Fairfield Golf and Sailing Club. For those who prefer to stay on dry land, there are some pleasant walks to be had in Audenshaw Ponderosa and Shepley Wood Park.
Audenshaw is a quiet town on the outskirts of central Manchester. Whilst there are several pubs and takeaways within the central Audenshaw area, the majority or restaurants and night life are to be found a short trip away to neighbouring towns of Denton and Ashton-under-Lyne.
